I just got a used 60 gallon tank. I want to get some piranhas. How many can I have in a 60 gallon tank?

What species are you looking into?

Oh yeah, that would have helped. Red Bellies.

what are the tank dimensions. For this species the footprint (base area) of the tank is more important.

48" x 12"

These are always interesting threads. A 48" x 12" will be a little tight four 3 RBPs and it's not recommended to keep them in pairs, so I would go with a single. Possible that you could upgrade to a 125g in a year, you could get 5-6 little ones and grow them out, then move to a 125g once they are 5-6".

That sounds like a good plan. I think I'll do that. I was thinking 6 little ones but wanted to make sure it would be ok.

i'd say 2... but it's not good to get 2.. because one will become dominant..
and the 6.. you could probably keep em in there as babies.. but you'll have to upgrade your tank later..
