I recently moved my Severum to a bigger tank and now have its old 60 gallon running with 6 small tigerbarbs.

I wanted to get some ideas for stocking. I think I'd like to make this a planted setup and perhaps add more tiger barbs.

That said, id like to see if I could get something that could potentially breed easily and not mess up the plants. I'd be using the excess fry for feeding my bigger cichlids so over population would not be a problem. Any ideas?

Convict would work for a fast breeding, interactive pet.
Livebearers are also good for food sources and are plant safe.
You could add to the tiger school, get a con pair, and do a couple of swordtails all together.

I like the idea of convicts but I was wondering if they'd try to kill everything after pairing off

Most of that aggression would be focused on other cichlids or things deemed as a threat. The tiger barbs and livebearers aren’t as much so and can be easily run off. My convict parrot pair is in a 60 and only messes with other cichlids or the leporinus, the dithers aren’t ever attacked.
The presence of dither fish will also keep the convicts from getting aggressive with each other.
If you happen to have extra mean convicts there may be an issue. If you are worried, you can look into Honduran red points. They are a smaller, more colorful, and more peaceful cousin to the convict cichlid.

Ahh makes sense that is super helpful thank you! I might take a look at those.

If you have never had 40 tiger barbs in a tank it is pretty impressive. It is like a tornado when you feed them. Red panda barbs or Odessas are another option.

If you want some thing easy to breed to feed to other fish a pair of gouramis can generate a lot of fry in a short amount of time. If you want a cichlid Bolivian rams are a good fit. If you like the convict like fish I think rainbow cichlids are the best of the bunch. A pair of angels will throw a significant amount of fry. Festivums are another option if you want something different.

Herotilapia multispinosa do great for me in a planted community tank. Amatitlania or cryptoheros species would probably work for you as well.
