Hi I'm new to the forum and would love to get feedback on my planned stocking for new 60 gallon tank, standard size of 4ft long.

1 male convict 4.5 inches
1 blue acara 3 inches
1 salvini 3 inches
1 firemouth 3 inches
2 buenos aires tetras 2 inches each
1 algae eater 2.5 inches

Any comments on how this stock would work? Is it overstocked? If so, any recommendations?

Thanks

I'm kind of stuck on salvini, would like to have one if at all possible. I've read that they can be be agressive, but so are the other cichlids in my stock, no? I'll have plenty of caves and am not to concerned with the tetras as they are cheap dithers. Still think salvini will kill the other cichlids?

Why only 2 tetras. They're schooling fish. I wouldn't have less than 6. But I also wouldn't put them in a tank with a salvini.

Try salvini, convict, and a couple fire mouths. However, I'm sure the salvini will take over the tank sooner than later.

I had a convict in a 55 and he split the tank in half and he was only about 3 inches.

I was thinking about getting a few more of these buenos aires tetras. They aren't that small and are extremely fast. I've read that they do ok as dithers in a cichlid tank. I already have the blue acara and convict in another tank while my 60 gallon cycles, Id like to only get one firemouth, and hopefully the salvini. I'll definitely watch fir the sals aggression and move to my other tank any of the cichlid that can't hang. My male convict is actually about 5 inches to be honest. Do you think the salvini will dominate over him?

People always mention how fast the dithers are blah blah blah then they all end up dead.

Try the sal, con, fm and acara then. I still think the sal will cause problems.

Yea I'll definitely keep an eye out for the salvini. I have the second tank just in case. These 2.5 inch buenos aire tetras were a dollar each so no real loss. What do you recommend as dithers if not these?

I've kept salvini in a135 with cons and HRP's and my tank has about almost twice the footprint of yours and the sals still made the cons life a living hell. I say either keep the sal and get him/her a mate or remove it.

I agree Salvini are pretty mean... really nice looking, but mean. Convicts can be tough too n might hang, but the Firemouths and Acara are not really tough or aggressive fish IME... I'd think the Salvini will tear them up before long. Good luck!!
