60 gallon tall salt tank

Well they may nip at the corals nothing is garnetied, but they shouldn't, they would only likely do it if they arent being fed enough. Their diet consists of , shrimp, small fish (Which really means fish up to a 1/3 its size) and the occational clam, snale or crab, corals not usualy on the list, the fish that go for corals tend to have "beak" like mouths like triggers or filefish.

Personaly if you have the money, or the time/patience to culture, its not a bad idea to keep a number of live feeder shrimp in the tank at all times, as they will clean detritus, and will provide a snack for the lion when he feels the need to eat, the only problem is that with live around they may not want to eat frozen or dried any more haha.

this is going to be a challenge, laugh out loud.

I'm putting a end to all this lol and lmao bs. :)

I must disagree with the lion info. A real reef would require LOTS of live rock. A lionfish needs room to swim and its min tank size is a 75. I find that to small for a 15inch fish that can be as large as a basketball. I would say get a smaller species of lionfish not a volitan. or have a larger tank for the future.

would not having much rock be a good idea? so the lionfish has the room to swim above the rock?

My friend TheCanuck, has a point, I looked further into tank size spacificaly about volitans, and they are indeed best kept in a minimum of a 75gal, so yes you could keep it in the 60 but it wouldn't be verry happy. But you could easily put an Antennata, or maybe a Radiata into the 60, and they are my two favourite lions, and are quite impressive (more so then the Volitan in my opinion).

But I have to disagree on the need for alot of liverock haha, you can have a mini reef in your tank using less live so long as you have enough biofiltration in other things.

Well he needs lots of room if your going volitan. Almost no rock, but your doing a reef right?

I guess the best advice would be get a smaller species of lion fish. Or a bigger tank to do the reef and lionfish.

True on the mini reef. A BIG reef with one BIG lion sounds bad a though.

A radiata would be perfect and they are really cool. Good suggestion i would personally choose this lion over a volitan personally as well.

thanks for the advice! i do not plan on doing a massive reef just live rock here and there.

Thanks for catching me on the Volitan haha, as you know Canuck, I'm more of a reefer, haha preds are more your field lol, I don't like giving advice that could turn out bad as it may discurage people haha, so thanks haha.

i would love to have the radiata but all my lfs have poor quality fish up here in canada and only a few nice lookers come in once in a blue moon :( soo if i do find one of these it will cost me a arm and a leg vs. a 50$ CAD regular lionfish
