Hello everyone,

I just recently signed up for MFK to get tips from the "pros" and hoping to get some informative answers instead of getting flamed. My question is.. I recently got a 60 gallon tank and thinking of getting a 4-5" Arapaima. Can I even have an Arapaima on my 60 gallon? If so, how much time do I have until I have to upgrade to a bigger tank? I heard they grow fast.. Information would be much appreciated. :)

Thanks in advance.

is this a joke if not you can't put one in a 60 gallon

Mate, what are you thinking?

No I would not even put an arapaima in a 60gal as a growout. A 300gal would be a minimum growout. If you did put a pima in a 60 gal you would last it a month at most.

Do you have a large pond or pool ready for it when it out grows your tank/s? They will grow up to 8' easily, so you need to be prepared. What are your plans for the fish when you need to upgrade.

No, an arampima gigas can grow to 6' quickly and easily in about 5 years, and will need 15,000 gallons at that point. They do not care in the slightest if they are outgrowing your tank, those fish keep growing..............

There is no way this guy is for real. Smells like a troll...

I smell trollishness, but to me seems more like uneducatedness or sheer stupidity.

wait to see what the next things he says are then make a decision ;)

you got me thinking..are you a newbie at fish keeping or are you just ignorant. usually a newbie wont go for an Arapiama.

Welcome to MFK. Please ignore the posts by all the "Assumption Clowns"

From what I've been able to find, they grow very quickly(about 2") per month. So even if you were able to get one at 6" a new tank would be needed within months. This is not a fish that can be kept in the home aquarium nor by anyone except the most advanced fish keepers.
