Ahem play nice

I dunno how to put it out.. but... NO.... you can't use a 60 gallon for a gigas......

Forget a getting a gigas.. I've seen people use a 210gallon grow out and STILL not big enough...

Find another fish my friend... Try Arowana if your into monster size fish.....

Can't keep an arapaima in a 60 gal tank. Wonder why People these days start flaming while they can play nice and easy whenever they see a foolish topic... He might be new to monster fish keeping so teach him the basics and what he needs to know. Afterall, all of us started from newbies. I also did go for a 5" A.Gar in a 10 gal tank not knowing anything about it until I joined MFK and learned everything about it :D. He's now at 16" living in a 3700gal pond in our farm.

theres your answer :D

wow the color is beautiful, wonder if they released it :(

and about the question short answer - no as you can see from the picture. Start small if you are just into fish keeping, soon if you upgrade to a 200g+ you can keep a silver arowana which can somewhat look like a pima if it has red fins :|

Regardless of the size of the tank, being as stated a new Monster keeper, You should perhaps start with less demanding fish than Arapaima.

And wellcome.

Welcome to MFK,no an arapaima cant be in a 60 gallon tank,Arapaimas is the largest freshwater fish and i heard they grew really fast and the get to 15ft in da wild,10 ft in captivity and they require at least 10000 gallon tank

Welcome to MFK. Please pardon most of the members here, except Bderick67 and Sonsinator, since they CAN'T read, yet they love to display their "knowledge!" :grinno: You heard right. Arapaima grows fast. Since a 60 gallons tank is 15"-16" wide, your 4"-5" arapaima will grow to that size in 4-5 months. If you plan to get an arapaima, please also plan to upgrade your tank soon. However, there's another thing that you didn't hear. Arapaima is also very sensitive to water parameter at such size, so there's also a chance that you may not need to upgrade your tank after all :D. It could be your first time on MFK, but you may not be a newbie, and have been keeping fish, so I wish you the best with your new chosen fish. :)

Hello everyone,

I just recently signed up for MFK to get tips from the "pros" and hoping to get some informative answers instead of getting flamed. My question is.. I recently got a 60 gallon tank and thinking of getting a 4-5" Arapaima. Can I even have an Arapaima on my 60 gallon? If so, how much time do I have until I have to upgrade to a bigger tank? I heard they grow fast.. Information would be much appreciated. :)

Thanks in advance.
