60" light fixtures?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here is an old pic of my 60" mbuna tank lit by a 36" 2X55 watt PC. I think it looked pretty good. I kind of like the darker sides. Gave the fish a darker area to retreat to.

I have a Coralite 4' T5 (I think, it's the thin bulbs) and it doesn't get the edges enough. I have no idea what I want, I will take any suggestions. I don't really know what is out there as far as lighting goes. I was wondering what some of you more experienced fishkeepers would go with. I have no live plants, a Butti, some GTs, some clown loaches and some mbunas (that somehow all get along....for now anyway.) The tank is a 6' wide 150.
Why don't you just get a 72" fixture, as these are much easier to find and buy parts for. 60" is a very odd size. 72" will also fit your tank exactly.

I have a 6' long 220G tank & use the Coralife 72" lunar aqualight. Just swapped out the blue actinic bulbs for 6700K & turn the lunar lights on for occasional night time viewing. I like the clean look of one fixture & the adjustable legs (bought separate) make servicing the tank easy.

i would use 2 4ft bulbs. have each on touch an end of the tank and then just have them overlap in the middle. its a cool effect to have the middle brighter than the rest and like cichlids4me said gives your fish a darker spot to feel safe in.

The tank is 72" wide. I was looking at some lights and they said not to put them under a canopy, that if you are putting them under a canopy you need a retrofit. What does this mean? I do have a wood canopy that opens on top.
