600 African Cichlid tank

With a tank that size I would look into a fake rock background. I like the way the look on bug tanks and yourl be pretty financially committed already. I've always liked black diamond blasting media, its cheep and works great plus I like the look of black media. Pool filter sand is popular but messier. I've always gotten my rocks out of local creeks so I can't say much on that.

And I should comment on getting 50 to 60 fish. That's assuming your getting a variety of sized haps, if you want more of the monsters such as Malawi trout, tyranochromis nigentariver, and tyranochomis macrostoma. I would cut that number down in half. If your getting a variety of sizes and only less than a dozen of the 13+inch haps and the rest in the 5 to 12 inch range then your fine with higher stocks. Its tough to say with hap tanks since every mix is different. Maby some people with 5 or 6 hundred gallon tanks can give you their stock numbers to give a better picture.
I generally start out way under stocked and add fish as I go over time so I don't over stock.

I've been browsing these forums for months. It sounds like a great community. Well I currently have a 125gallon aquarium with Mbuna with a few maps. Auratus x6, Kenyi x8, Bumblebee x4, Orange Johanni x4. I also have Malawi eye biter x2, super vc10 x4, and livingstonii x2. They're all sub adults, no fish greater than 5". I've owned all these fish before but never had a tank as big as 600.

So I ordered a 600 fiberglass tank. Once it's all settled. I would like to have Mbuna and maps mixed tank. I'm going to put rocks on one side of the tank for the Mbuna and leave the other half open for the maps. What do you believe is a good ratio for Mbuna and maps? I do prefer to keep it stocked to limit aggression. Do you think 80mbuna and 20 maps? Really looking for help here.

Do you mind sharing where you ordered from?

Generally with mbuna you want 1 fish per2-3 gallons but in a 600, I don’t think you need to follow that rule, as far as the haps as long as they’re a good amount bigger than the mbuna , I think you should be fine, especially with that much room, just watch those bumblebee and auratus , they could potentially be an issue
