I just purchased a 270g tank that had a crack in the bottom panel for $200. The fish store owner (who also makes tanks) put another pane of glass on the bottom and put silicone along the edges as well as along the crack. I don't have the tank at home yet but he has had it set up in his store for the past 2 years without any leaks. If you use a large enough pane of glass over the crack it should work well.
I also did this on my 60g sump (with a smaller piece of glass) and it hasn't leaked for the past 6 months (keeping my fingers crossed).
Don't give up, that tank will be incredible once you get it fixed and it will be all worth it.
I would of lost all ambition if i was working on this for this long. IMO just pay the money for a tank already built and skip the past year of headaches
