600 gallon filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ill have 120lbs of bio rings
A few thousand of bio balls and k1 media for fluidized bed.
So trying to combine the good methods all into one. If a 240 will be too big just a waste of room them I wouldn't need to.
What size pump should I use for my 600?

Thats just a turn over question. How many times do you want to turn over your water in an hour? I honestly think 4 to 6 times an hour is good. Some people go 10X.

I do 4X on all my tanks but I also trickle about 1 gallon an hour into all my tanks. I just don't need as much turnover.

its not the size of the sump that matters its the use of the space and the media.
Bingo, the volume doesn't matter (so long as it holds the skim when your pump switches off), it's the design that counts.

Sounds excessive. What are you going to do for mechanical?

I'm thinking about using the laguna max flo 4200. Is that pump ok to use for a tank and not a pond?
And thinking about hooking it up with 110 watt uv.

I just want to too little more to it so Ill know ill have a good enough set up where filtration will be the problem of fish loss.

Those are good pumps! Very efficient.

I am running a Laguna Max Flo 4200 on my tank and I am very happy with it; runs quiet, seems to be a well made pump and it's one of the more energy efficient pumps on the market. Not sure what your systems total dynamic head is, but the pump does 2935GPH @ 6', so you would get just under 5 x per hour (@ 6' head) which should be sufficient.

Do you run a uv to it too?
What size tank do you have?
