600 Gallon Fly River Turtle Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How long do you think this tank will last? I chatted with someone from Pentair today and wouldn't give me anything, besides the warranty is 1 year and they can't gurantee anything past that.

Do you have a updated FTS of the set up?
I'll try and get a few updated pics to this thread tomorrow. I'll include some pics of the filtration setup, too.

My wife is desperate to get this tank crystal clear again, like it was right after the tank cycled. Time to get serious about possibly adding the cartridge filter to the system.

With the drains mounted so low in the tank if there is a power outage wont the tank drain out to the drain level?

Nope. It's basically a closed loop system. The only way for water to exit the system is when I turn the head/valve on the Aqua Ultraviolet bead filter to "Backwash", "Drain", "Rinse", etc.

Thanks I just received my Pentair 600 gallon tank and am trying to mirror your build
the only diffrence is I plan to tie into the system 3 90 gallon tanks would you recommend I purchase the ultima 2 or larger. I have also been advised that 18 inches may be too low a stand height and to go for roughly 24 inches. Are you happy with the height of your stand? I want to be able to look over it without issue to simulate a pond set up and last but no least I more than likely for tank layout constraints wont be able to run drains and returns on both sides of my tank like you did do you see an issue with having all drain and returns on just one of the 4 foot sides of the tank?

I'm pretty happy with the height of my stand. I built to a height where it was most comfortable to view the turtle and fish while sitting on a chair in front of the tank. I can definitely look over the entire top side of the tank and do maintenance from above with the tank at this height.

As far as deciding between the Ultima II 1000 or 2000, I wish I would have gone with the 2000. The Ultima's are not cheap filters, but for about $150 more, you get a fairly sizable jump in surface area (going from a 1000 to 2000). I'm not sure what you'll be stocking in your 600 gallon tank, but I would splurge for the 2000, considering your putting 3 - 90 gallon tanks on the same system.

I know plumbing the drains and returns on their own sides would have been way easier, but I'm personally glad I put them on both sides of the tank. I could definitely create enough flow in the tank to have the waste get sent to the filter system if the returns and drains were set on opposite ends of the tank, but I just really like the circular flow I've created. Maybe someone else can chime in that has used your proposed set up in their own tanks.
