600 gallon tank build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think you need to cut these standpipes down a bit to lower the Water in your overflow
I think the only way to end up with less water in your sump during a power outage
If I make them lower it will put more water in the sump because it will keep the siphon until the water drops below the hole I drilled my over flow box is about 20 gallon just by itself. I put them up that high because it was the only way to get the water level in the tank up because is I just shut the drain valve my sump will run dry.

Gotcha im just throwing ideas
I Definitely think more sump space will ease this up , i like the basement sump idea
I’d run a fiberglass tub you’d have tons of space to grow cheap plants to help filter or even raise a few small fish etc
But the pump would suck some
Juice to pump all that gph up that high
Unless you ran 3 mid size pumps could work
Or better yet more the whole tank into basement and it can be the start to the fish room man cave ??

You are correct. Specifically, lowering the main siphon, presumably already the lowest isn't going to help anything for what you need.

Given your water level relative to your weir, and thae fact you have closed the siphon sufficiently, I think the only way I can see to increase you tank level is first increasing pump volume. This will cause your water level to rise in your tank, whick may need to open up the siphon until you have enough back to the sump cor the pump. Tweaking without increase return isnt going to help.

I personally like where your level is at. Bigger fish hit the top less when they are chomping pellets.

Well here is the next thing that is going in, my 75 watt UV Sterilizer The main reason that I am using this is because I plan on getting fish from multiple sources and do not have a Quarantine tank. Don't plan on running it once the tank is up and established unless I see a reason to, the tank is by a window and it does have a black back so I don't think I will have too much problem with algae.

To increase the water level in the tank without increasing the pump flow. you need to block off a portion of the teeth opening. I used universal body panel retainers to block them off in my tank. Its the cheapest way to raise the water level in your tank. You'll need to find the size that will fit snug for your gaps

That's is a great idea I was thinking of how to do that what something that is fish safe.

This is by far the quickest cycle I have ever done. I seeded this tank with filter material from my existing tank last night I was .25 PPM of Ammonia and the nitrate was light but maybe about 3 PPM. This morning ammonia was at 0 PPM and nitrates were at 5 PPM. I have 5 Assorted peacocks a Jack Dempsey and an oscar all under 2 inches and I picked up 15 snails.
