6000 gph Water Pump in 55 gallon sump on 1100 gallon tank ok?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i am currently running 3000 gph on a 650 and it works fine.

you can reduce the pump output with a valve on the output ( if its a centrifugal pump) and this will reduce the current draw as well if it seems too much flow.

if it is a pond dont use a sump.....use several 55 gal plastic drums filled with bio media.....use some of the return water to spray over the bio media and use a gravity return.....

Thanks. I am thinking three two inch overflows with the 6000 gph pump, but I figure I can get a pond liner off of ebay for $40 and get some plywood and 2x4's for a few bucks and make my own 100 gallon sump, or get a 100 gallon rubbermaid for a sump. How much better would 100 gallons be than 50 gallons?

twice as good :grinno:
