600G Filtration Ideas

I have an fx5 here so I figure with my tank the same. If it's not super super crystal clear I can put that on there at first to help Polish the water but with. Little time and good filter socks I bet they will Polish the water super clean. When adding socks to an already setup tank it can take a while for them to get all the water clear as they have to go through all that volume and all the crud first. My next socks I might try some of the 100 and 50 micron soxks stuffed together. Time will tell and I will be posting what works best with my tank on my thread.

It's 200 micron, I'm looking for 100 but hoping to find the longer socks, seeing 16 inches but like to see of I can get 24" socks at 100 microns. I'll likely get 3 of each the 100 and 200s on my next purchase. I end up moving my pump to the main sump now it's push at full power but still thinking its not running 100%, rough estimate about 85% with all the plumbings, my water is starting to clean after I added another layer of matt before draining to my bio balls. Hoping the 100 micron will do the job.

Look up McMaster Carr. That's the place where to get them from

Not important for fish happiness, but for total visual clarity, suggesting need for some method to do 3 micron or even less mechanical filtration, otherwise water always not 100% crystal clear. Now, there are tanks with crystal clear water without any 3 micron or less mechanical filtration! How can this happen? In these examples, people say there are micro-animals in the biological media which eat small particles, therefore leaving water without particles bigger than a few microns in size. So, water is clear! OK, maybe so...but, how to be sure we can grow sufficient micro-animals also in our system? Hard to guarantee! Some media better than others. Also, slower flow better for micro-animals. But, if too hard to plan good life for micro-animals, can just do some mechanical way to keep suspended particles in tank water 3 microns or less!

40 microns is not even visible to the naked eye. 74 micron is the size of human hair. 104 is table salt size. So 4 would be impossible and never work. Even 50 would be super crazy and most people find that the socks just overflow and water wont really pass through them. My 125 Gallon tank is super super clean. Just washedcl my 200 micron socks in the washing machine with some bleach and they look great and put one back on the tank.

Bacteria is 1 micron. Coal dust is 20-60 microns. Talcum powder is 10 microns.

I think can see 10 micron particles in water, of course not individual ones, but all together they make water cloudy. Try add talcum powder to water everyone can see not clear now. Not saying 4 micron filter sock is good idea. 4 micron filter sock very bad idea, LOL! Because must change filter sock every 20 minutes, LOL! But, am saying, good idea to add another mechanical filtration, down to 3 micron size, to setup, to ensure clear water. This can be a sand filter or a diatom filter or a micro- mesh, etc.
