60g Pink Convict Tank Mates???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Convicts will kill rams, if you want a tank mate I'd go with a sev for sure. I'm surprised your convict didn't kill all those tetras. Convicts are just as aggressive as red devils, they're just not as big. Severums get kind of big though. Keyholes, and festivum would be good tankmates but the con might bully them too. I wouldn't add a jewel, they don't get along well with convicts. A firemouth would work but you could end up with hybrids. It's up to you but your best best is a severum if that's all you can find locally.

can i add a severum and a firemouth?

yo...whats up??? i would def go with some black &/or calico convicts & hondurans if i were you.... also look into some rainbow (cichlids) and non-died jellybean/bubble gum parrots ( they are often nothing more than short bodied convicts and females color up nice with age). maybe some firemouths. you can fo with some texas, severum, j/d, and blood parrots but keep in mind you will need to expand in the future.... i have kept all mine together and it makes for an interesting tank:D....just be sure to put lots of caves/pots & plastic plants for hiding....
convicts rock!!!!!:headbang2

to be honest with you in my experience it depends on how many hiding places you have..... u want to set up natural borders made from plants, rock walls, logs, pots or other ornaments.....you could put atleast 3 full grown breeding pairs with minimal aggression if the tank is set up right....and possibly more...i have 3 full grown breeding pairs in my tank the males are about 5" the females about 3 1/2...all types and colors....i also have 2 pairs of breeding jellybean in there as well....
just imagine the tank as a lot of land....all the fish need thier own "yard" with a fence/wall (plants, roocks , logs....) blocking them from the fish next door. but they also need a way to get to the "road" or open space to swim around and eat w/o getting attacked.... just make all the fences/walls about twice as high as the fish are tall....
i know this sounds wierd but it works great for me!!!! so find your inner child and build a town!!! lol....
they will breed within days or a few weeks at the most.... i find it harder to breed the pinks and hardest to breed the calicos, but the regular convicts breed super easy....
also if you decide to put severum in there just know that they are sneeky they wait for the convict parents to leave at feeding time and then swoop in and eat the babies one by one w/o being noticed!!!! they seem docile but they are cold blooded killers!!! lol;)

what kind of catfish can i keep with them

aye...i only have cory cats with mine...they will attack the sh*t outta any fish that is slow enough to get cornered...infact i found a cory in my tank the other day that had its fins chewed completely off!!! he is in a recovery tank now and looks like he wil actualy make it...he looks like a slug....lol...poor dude....
