65 gallon need help stocking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A pair of blue acara, with tetra and various catfish/ bottom dwelling tankmates would be awesome in that size tank.
Heres my pair20191211_175315.jpg

So any recomendtions on a chiclid based cumminty of smaller guys maybe some geophagus and gymnophagus types stay smaller those are nice or maybe even something around firemouths ?

Firemouth would be cool in that size tank. Could even go for one of the other species of thorichthys

Look at Salvini cichlid. Get to around 6in mark.
Or look at the Amatitlania family. There are a few different sp. That would work out great in that tank, the common convict, HRP, Nanolutea etc. With Swordtails or Molly's as dithers some Hopolo cats would be a nice tank.

The thing no one has asked tho is what type of water do you have? High PH hard water, or low PH soft water? This will determine the best fish for your tank size and basic water peramaters.

I see you live in Oregon. Are you on well water or city water? If city water your water company is required by law to post test results online for all to see. You can look it up and get a general hardness reading.

If your water is hi PH and hard stick with fish from Central American or from the west slope of the Andes mountains (Ecuador, Peru etc)
If low PH and soft stick with South Americans from the East side of the continent.

A reading of 7.2 is the borderline of the two really in my mind. I would try and find out the hardness/softness of your water.

On api test again it shows 3 which is 50ppm? Acording the test ill look online to see what city water says
Ive never had to track hardness or kh&gh except when i had reef tank for corals so i think the api tests are mostly accurate

Seen some "gymnogeophagus blue neon" at the lfs today those looked pretty awesome but it says max size 4inch seems pretty small

So now we know you waters base peramaters ph 7.2 hardness of 50

Now all the suggestions you got or ones you get you can look up on sites like fishbase and see if your parameters fit.
