I have a 65 gallon tank that I picked upped from my lfs for $30. The tank was made by the owner for a reef, but I want to make it into a planted Discus tank. I do not have alot of experience choosing filtration for bigger tanks and was wondering if I could get some help. Also if there is anything else I need for the tank please mention.

p.s. How hard is it to drill holes into a 72"x15.5"x18.5" tank for filtration. Is there somewhere where I can get this done?

Thanks

This is no DIY project. You will shatter the tank. It takes special equiptment. I don't know about where you live. Here the only place that does it is a LFS that specializes in Aquariums. Selling them, servicing them, selling fish, the whole 9. If you have a place like that around, I'd call them. If not you may try all the glass shop around and ask.

thats a 95 ish thing

Here's the sticky on how to do it. As you see it can be done in the home by an amateur (sorry CHOMPERS). But you must have patience.

If you find a glassier or aquarium shop they most probably won't guarantee glass replacement if they break it (that's just a heads up) but ask them.

The second tank with dimensions is not a 65 I know. It is an extra one my Uncle is going to give me.

fyi.. no theres no way to tell if its tempered or not.. drilling a tank is said to be pretty easy as long as you go slow... if it is tempered.. you will find out a few seconds into drilling it... either way wear safety glasses and keep your mouth closed..

If he has never done it before, why would you suggest that it's easy? What may be easy for some may be difficult to others. It only takes one mistake and the tank is ruined.
You pay for insurance on your car don't you? Then why not pay an expert to insure that the job is done right and you are not out a tank?

Take it to someone who knows what they are doing. Personally, I would ask if they guarantee their work. I would let them do the job if they can't guarantee in writing that they will replace the tank should they break. They break it, they buy it.

I am goin to look into getting it done professionally.

Should i get one whole drilled for and overflow?
