  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So after work today I came home to an almost empty Goonch tank :(

I've been managing the leak with a 5 gallon bucket and trying to push off the inevitable tank swap until the weekend.........

LOL okay I'm a dork, no one can push out a water leak till the weekend.

Pics:

Tank half empty when I get home. I was going to Kevin Flemings house to help him with fish stuff......... I had to save the goonch, I know he will understand.

I have an old 125 so I put it on the floor and filled it with the remanning water.

Goonch in the water

The tape measure is at 16 inches, I figure he's about 14 to 16 inches depending if one includes the tail???

I couldn't believe how heave this fish was.

Oh yeah, it's mouth was open the whole time it was out of the water heheheh just looking to punish who ever was taking him out of the water lol I was very clear of that mouth

Oh yeah the plants. I couldn't believe how much plants had grown. I kept half in a 5 gallon bucket filled with Goonch water. Hopefully they lived. The other half you can see in my back yard......

Great nitrate remover?????

I never had an issue with water quality, now I got him with some crap *** sponge filters until I can get another tank up and running.......

the goonch looks amazing! good luck with the rest of the tank.

bare bottom will be much easier to clean. also if you are able to, make the output from the filters flow towards the bottom of the tank and it will force all the debris into the intake

Respect on those cats man for real!
And as for those plants, this is another good example of using emergents.
All of you guys with pothos problems take notes.

Wife unit shut down the bare bottom tank idea, she does not like the laboratory look. Gravel is back in and I have to say it looks good. Good call on her part.

Nice john, that tank cleaned up NICE!!
Thanks! Yeah I'm very happy with the outcome

Some update photos:
Full tank shot with plants back in.
A few shots of the plant holders/pots. They are plastic and held on the glass with suction cups. Works great! I got the planters from www.RipariumSupply.com

The Goonch will go in tomorrow.

This is a great thread! Love to see the plants grow so much and the fish put on size, too! How low did that amount of pothos keep your nitrates?

Zero :headbang2 This tank did not have nitrate issues. I wasn't testing much after it was established. Maybe twice in the last year if memory serves?

To be fair, it's a very large tank for just one fish and I have two large canister filters on there too. 20% weekly water changes. At the most the Goonch ate two market shrimp a week. I'm sure the plants helped also because there growth was phenomenal.
