6g nano

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ive decided to drop the idea of a 6g and just set up a 20g salt
that way i will be easier to maintain and the same price almost as a 6g nano

aquaC remora is great an fairly cheap
seaclone would be a little cheaper, but way worse
tunze nano skimmers as well

or do weekly water changes? i do on my 30 without any issues. still have a bit of algae but the tank is still fairly new. about 5 months old. added some snails and the algae is disapearing. i think im coming toward the end of the diatom phase too. theres less and less brown sludge every time :)

im adding a refugium to my tank too. a DSB and mangroves hopefully... that should sort out the last of the algae.

so i dont neccesarily need a protien skimmer?
a friend told me i could use a good skimmer instead of a filter
and i should have no problems at all

Skimmer & live rock is all the "filter" you need for a SW tank. Conventional FW filters are nitrate factories for SW.

water changes are a given, but a skimmer is icing on the cake, if you will

the more filtration you have obviously the better

keeping money in mind, you might just want some live rock, a decent skimmer and a powerhead or two

k ive got the powerheads
got an eheim rated for a 75g
live rock i am getting
and a protien skimmer i am getting
so x out the filter for clarifacation?

and can i start the tank for a month without a skimmer?
my friend told me dont start the tank without a skimmer

i use a fluval 4+ in my tank. i do weekly WC's. as far as im aware, internal filters dont do too much in SW aquariums (not much info on using then in SW), so they basically act like a powerhead, just movng water around the LR.

you can just run a tank with LR and powerheads, but with a skimmer your overall filtration will be so much better. sumps filled with LR are probably the best filtration a SW tank can have. im adding a sump/refugium to my tank. gonna give it a deep sand bed and some mangroves to cut down on waste products in the aquarium. and some LR rubble too. i hope to remove the filter then as it takes up a bit of space. or replace it with a smaller one. but im still researching that.

the only reason i dont run a skimmer is because i cant afford to get one. i decided that my tank would benefit more from the sump/refugium than with a skimmer, so the sump gets built first. if i come into money i would probably get a skimmer, but only after i got better lights.

skimmers do work, but i think they dont have the same value £ for £ as other forms of filtration.

i.e. im building my sump for around £40 including the sand, rock, mangroves ect. id be lucky to find a decent skimmer for £40 even used. that is unless you make it yourself...
