I'm going to have a tank built soon and I'm trying to decide on size. I have been quoted £310 for a 6x2x2 or £425 for an 8x2x2, I'm looking to stock the tank with larger fish. Will the extra 2 feet of space increase my stocking options much? Want to make sure the extra £100 plus extra money on lighting etc is going to be worth my while.

I know it'll increase my stocking limit, my question was will it increase it enough for it to be worth spending an extra £200+ (more lighting, substrate, decor etc) on it.. I don't want to spend that kind of money if it will only allow me to keep one more large cichlid.

Only the purchaser can make that decision. For me the answer is yes.

+1. Although I'd look into a 6'x3' rather than the extra length. But that's just me.

Yeah an extra foot width I would do instead. But that's just cause I like bigger fish. If you're planning to do all cichlids that are good with a 2 foot width. Yes 8x2x2 all day long. It adds 60 gallons.

Ya I would go 6x3 over 8x2 but that's not the question. I think it's a no brainer ;)

8x3. Then you have the best of both worlds! If you can only do one though, what stock are you planning on?
