6x2 vs 8x2

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Length doesnt do a whole lot for me. I had one 8' tank and didnt care for it too much except the width. Id take a 6x30" or 6x3 over 8x2. What are your stocking plans?

I would go for the 8 footer as lighting wont be that much more. Just out of curiosity how many U.S. dollars in a pound. You also don't need substrate as it would make cleaning easier with out it. That extra 2 feet I feel would make you feel like the fish were less crowded and fool others as well. The 8 footer will still only be a 240 gallon tank but will look much larger. We have a 4x4 foot tank nice for viewing but takes up more floor space in a way. In that I mean looks so out of place just a thought if you decide to go with a wider tank. Wish you all the best in what ever tank you choose it will bring hours of enjoyment with your fish.

Just measured the place the tank will be sitting and it's just under 8 feet long so I think i'm going to go for the 7x2.5x2 (LxWxH) which works out at 260 gal (990 litres). This'll be a huge jump from my current 90 gal which has been the biggest tank i've ever had! Stocking wise i've not decided 100%, I like arowanas, gar, rays, flagtails and the large cichlids (jags, texas, midas etc) so I would have to see which of these would work together and how much I could fit in the tank without overstocking it. The tank is going to cost £438 ($745) plus £45 delivery which isn't too bad! I'll just have to find plans for a stand as this is going to be a heavy tank and i'd hate the stand to give way!

Look up Uarujoey on youtube for stand plans. You can't go wrong. I followed his design for my 8x2x2 and I'm really happy with it. I've got a thread in the DIY section if you're interested. Good luck with the new tank.

at 30" width I would personally go with one of the smaller gar species (Florida? I think get 24") and a couple rays. maybe get away with a couple Geos to add a little life as long as you get them big. the Gar or rays may just eat them but worth a shot.
