Are you meaning a hole 6x6x2 acrylic tank? If so the reason for doing it with glass and plywood is because when you go to that size of tank and the thickness you would need for the acrylic, the price of acrylic is more then build the hole diy tank with filters

If the tank is only two feet deep it would only need 3/4 acrylic. They do sell giant ten foot by six foot sheets of acrylic. In that there was this one local store that had a sheet of acrylic that was so big you could use it to make a 700 gallon tank with one sheet as the base of the tank.

What I've looked into is that a 180 gallon tank has less then $400 dollars of acrylic in it. While a 480 gallon tank only has $930 dollars of acrylic in it. And a 480 gallon tank would be four feet wide by eight feet long and two feet deep.

I'm currently making plans to build a 120 or 180 gallon tank.
