If you buy the marshmallows i'll buy the crackers and the chocolates and we can all sit next to the fire and eat while they do the drills :D

i've lived in CA all of my life. as much as they would love to, there is NO way to predict an earthquake. there isn't even a time of year when they are more likely than any other time of year.

you can prepare, you can fasten your furniture to walls that are going to fall down anyway. and you can get your fancy gas meter turn off tool, but the gas lines are going to be broken BEFORE the valve. and you can turn off the water at the street to avoid flooding or water damage in your house, but again, the water mains are going to be broken, so it's all moot.

you put all your camping gear where you can find it, keep a well stocked pantry with canned goods, keep a 55 gallon barrel of drinking water (or premade RO/DI water for your fish tanks), and a well stocked first aid kit, and carriers for ALL of you four legged companions. and a vehicle that you can put all of these things in just in case you have to leave your home.

that is as prepared as someone can be for an earthquake..
