Nice pickup, I love your baby gar; another goodway to get feeders is breeding Least Killifish (Heterandia Formosa) they breed like Guppies but get a little bigger.

They´re looking good, IMO

They are beautifull and gaining bulk, Joao!

With all that tender lon you are feeding them :)

The little buggers are getting bigger and bulkier.

I have been raising guppies for them but they are all also eating silversides (cut in pieces).
They all eat the head part of the silverside but only the bigger guys take all parts of the "fillets" I´m giving them. As a result, there are some big size differences: the dominant one (an eating machine) is already 8" while the smaller one is only around 5" (and half the width).
Considering they were bought with sizes between 3.5-4" and 5.5", this means the bigger guy grew at least 2" in a month and the smaller one around 1-1.5".

These 2 pictures of the same gar - the dominant one - were taken with 18 days diff. (02-05 and 02-23) and are a good example of what I wrote above

They have the company of a small (heavily patterned) clown knive that I got at 4" and (grew 1" in 3 weeks), and 4 remaining convicts (from the ~35 a friend gave me) that eat all the pieces of silverside they ignore.

In the meanwhile, I just got a very cheap 55g (40x16x20") that will be their next tank in a month or so. And given their size difference (and if it becomes more significant in the next couple of weeks) I consider splitting them: the 5 bigger ones to the new tank and the 2 small ones staying in their current one

Sounds like a sound plan. just be careful with the CK.. i tried one with my guys at one point and once the CK was 8" or so he would beat up on the gar at night, took me frazzled for a week or 2 before i staked out the tank and caught him harsassing them at night. They are often hit or miss with tank-mates. also watch out with the cons particularly if they start breeding, they will attack the gar.

Tks,
Amy,
The CK seems to be doing really good with them and is working as a "vacuum cleaner" for all the pieces of silversides that are left uneaten. They are growing (fast) together and so far so good but I deff will keep an eye on him.
As regards the cons, they aren´t staying long enough for that I believe and IF they start behaving badly, they have a place in the big tank with the aro...
