The little buggers are getting bigger and bulkier.
I have been raising guppies for them but they are all also eating silversides (cut in pieces).
They all eat the head part of the silverside but only the bigger guys take all parts of the "fillets" I´m giving them. As a result, there are some big size differences: the dominant one (an eating machine) is already 8" while the smaller one is only around 5" (and half the width).
Considering they were bought with sizes between 3.5-4" and 5.5", this means the bigger guy grew at least 2" in a month and the smaller one around 1-1.5".
These 2 pictures of the same gar - the dominant one - were taken with 18 days diff. (02-05 and 02-23) and are a good example of what I wrote above
They have the company of a small (heavily patterned) clown knive that I got at 4" and (grew 1" in 3 weeks), and 4 remaining convicts (from the ~35 a friend gave me) that eat all the pieces of silverside they ignore.
In the meanwhile, I just got a very cheap 55g (40x16x20") that will be their next tank in a month or so. And given their size difference (and if it becomes more significant in the next couple of weeks) I consider splitting them: the 5 bigger ones to the new tank and the 2 small ones staying in their current one
