oh, what would you say the ideal stand height would be?

There isn't really one, a metre high stand would be ideal for a tank you're going to view while standing, but my 2000L is only 450mm off the ground as A; I want it at eye level when I'm sitting down and B; it makes it easier to get into.

ahh ok fair enough. Looking at the measurements, id only need the stand to be 70cm high and it'd be fine.

If you want wood you can stack some of these up and you would only need about 8. But theyre 40x48 inches I think.. uploadfromtaptalk1371858649235.jpg

Oh theyll easily support the weight. At my work we have them supporting towers of water or canned foods all on one pallet. Like 30 foot tall towers lol. And is any diy stand treated? Its gonna be the same as any other wood stand but sturdier.

They're also not treated and tent to rot when exposed to water...

I know wooden pallets can support a huge amount of weight, I've loaded six metre long pallets with a couple of tons of Gib board (I think you'd call it sheet rock?), I've also seen them flex by about a foot over less than half their length when you pick them up with a forklift with that sort of weight on them. The 1" timbers between the blocks on the pallets are pretty flimsy and wouldn't do much to support the aquarium evenly. I'd certainly never build a timber stand out of wood like that, especially used flat rather than on edge, and subsequently wouldn't consider using pallets either.

Im not sure where to get them.. but new ones will cost a lot and used ones might not be in too good of shape.

ahh right fair enough, David R, you are officially my new best friend haha. I think ill be going with the blocks idea. the blocks and thick timber will up the stand, with nice wooden sheets covering it up to be pleasing on an esthetic viewpoint.
