Howdy All,

I am getting a new aquarium in the next month. Tank is 300x120x75cm high. It has a 180x90x60cm high grow-out tank plumbed into the system as well.
Initially, this was bought for my pair of leopoldi rays (40-45cm disc), I would however like to add some more rays to the group.
My questions are;
1- How many adult rays could I house comfortably in this tank?
2- Will 2 males attack each other? I intend to put in a divider to separate the males from the girls to give them a rest in between matings
3- Other fish will likely be Giant Gourami and maybe peacock bass

Cheers

Canada eh
Nice rays, nice tanks.

the divider is a good idea if you can make it strong enough to with stand horny males when they females are ready. Lol.

when breeding rays, I understand it is a good rule to have at least 3-4 bigger sized tanks for when something goes wrong. It’s all fun and games until someone decides to be a jerk. Sometimes it’s a female who decides to be a jerk but she is still willing and able to breed, so always good to have a few options.

for sure keep us updated on this. Look forward to more pics.

In regards to how many adults can you keep in there, it would depend on a few things- filtration, wc schedule, species etc.

700g is a good sized tank but doesn’t take too long for adult rays to fill it up.

adding gourami and bass will lower your number for rays and increase your food intake quite dramatically, bass often hog all the food away from the rays, you will need to power feed in order to get anything down to the rays.

Thanks for the reply!
I’ve got a 6x4 pond and a 7/2.5/2.5 tank as ‘spare’ once the 10 footer is going.
I’ve just put a 4.5mm perspex divider in and so far it’s holding, however the one I put in was clear, I’m thinking of going black or dark blue with the 0/4 one as it may limit the ability for males to see females

Filtration - 4x4 sump, 15kgs ceramic noodles, 10kgs seachem matrix, Baki rods
Waterchange schedule - 15-25% weekly
Species I am after are either albino pearl or BD as that is all that’s available in Australia that I like, have got bd hybrids in another system

other fish
1 giant gourami
3-4 peacock bass
