Hello everybody, and welcome to my thread. I want to start off by saying thank you to everyone who has helped me out on here with my endless amount of questions LOL! :D I have learned SO much from this forum and gained so much knowledge by reading other peoples threads and asking questions etc.

But, ever since I had joined this forum... from the very beginning... There have been a few fish that everyone talks about... No, I do not mean oscars, or african cichlids... I am talking about true "Monster" fish. Some of which I have been able to tackle within my fishkeeping career... Those are not the ones I am talking about either... I am talking about the monsters that have been able to elude me... Ones in which I have had no experiance with... Ones that are unique from any other fish species within this hobby... I have been waiting for what feels like forever... waiting... patiently... I have kept a countless number of different species but not any of these... but now it is time... this is the first step into an entirely new chapter in the fish keeping hobby... one that may only be achieved by only the best of hobbyists... Peacock Bass And Rays...

I will be building a 700+ gallon custom plywood tank... My biggest current tank that I own is a mere 300 gallons so this beast of a tank will completely blow that one out of the "fish water"!!! LOL! But anyways, this tank building will be my big "summer project" And I am hoping it will be a lot of fun but if something goes wrong then it will NOT be fun LOL! So, that is why I am asking for advice on here to ensure that this will be a successful build project.... I also wanted to make sure that i could commit a lot of time into this tank to so before I actually stock the tank I will be getting rid of about 4-5 of my smaller tanks I have... Because, I have read how much time it requires to keep rays in particular and i feel as if I should be 100% committed to the fish when I get it. This is a very advanced part of the hobby and I do NOT want to screw up...

So, after I had decided on a ray (or 2 :D) I then realized as cool as rays are... a 700+ gallon tank WOULD look kind of empty with only 1 or 2 rays in it... And that got me thinking then I thought about ANOTHER type of fish that I had always wanted to keep. The Mighty Peacock Bass. These fish have NEVER failed to interest me... Another plus to this is that MANY people keep these two species together and seem to be a very good compatible 2 species together... IMO, Rays will stay mostly to the bottom and the Peacock Bass will stay near the top mostly... and from what I have seen they will CONTRAST each other making the fish even more stunning then they already were... Now I have my mind set on these 2 species as the "MAIN" "show fish".

Even with those 2, I STILL think I could POSSIBLY add a few more additional fish to the tank (I do NOT want to overstock so PLEASE correct me if I am wrong about this...) I was thinking 2 severums and a school of about 8 silver dollars as dithers... However, this would be the MAX number of fish I would do... Lightly stocked but, light stocking is good for keeping good parameters and all kinds of other things... and I DO have a tendency to overstock ALOT of my tanks LOL you can NEVER have enough fish! :D

Anyways, I will be updating this thread daily and will answer ANY questions you guys have and FEEL FREE to leave suggestions or concerns on my thoughts and ideas... criticism is welcome but, please do not HATE!

I will be getting the exact dimensions for the tank very soon and will post them here! :)

THANKS FOR READING EVERYONE! :D

Hey guys, I have started measuring the basic measurements for the tank and it is going to take up 100% the ENTIRE wall.... But, I have ran into a problem... The wall I am building it on is in front of a door well... not exactly.... the actual tank will not BLOCK the door but as soon as you open the basement door you will just see the SIDE of the tank LOL it is actually kinda cool IMO what do you guys think about this??? (I will post some pictures soon...)

another problem... I WOULD be able to make the tank about 4 inches LONGER but there is a lightswithch near the nd of the wall and It would be pretty stupid to have the switch BEHIND the tank so.... I think I will be losing a FEW inches off of the tank BUT, it is luckily not a lot.... So, just wanted to let you guys know...

Here is a crappy drawing I did... It basically ONLY shows the basic layout and size comparison of the wall... And it is not that accurate LOL i will post REAL PICTURES soon... oh BTW, the stand is going to be REALLY (JUST high enough to fit a sump under there...) So that I ca map the tank REALLY high... I mean, it may be about 4-5 foot tall...

Nice drawing. Haha. I am also building one. I have my plans already done and exact measurements on all pieces. Tomorrow I will be placing the order for 1" ply and have my quotes for glass. Pretty pricy stuff! Your drawing doesn't show all the detail. So I was just curious on how you plan on doing it.
