700 gl Malawi Cichlid tank overtaken by algae!!!

In addition to my previous post, this link should help a lot http://www.aquariumpros.com/articles/algae.shtml

From a quick read - It does say that even though it doesn't receive direct sunlight, the algae will grow faster if it's close to a window.

I hope you solve this soon, as it will only get harder as time goes by.

Well then it's likely black beard algae and it's a serious pain to get rid of. :(

yeah- from what I've read, I dont think limiting light will really have an effect... it seems to be a rather hardy, persistent plant, I think it was introduced into the tank by the only piece of holey limestone I purchased from the LFS (it was even bleached). an employee since then let slip that they had a breakout of it at store.

They should give you some discounts or deals on future purchases since they are, most likely(admitted by the employee), the cause of such a large scale problem.

I've never treated it in such a large system. I've read copper can kill it, but you have to be careful with your fish...

everything is awesome. nice fishes and tank

why not introduce some plecs that eat algae

i also do not feed my fish much in the way of prepped fish food. I really think that some of the binders that they put in commercial fish food has a lot to do with feeding algae.

i feed my fish market seafood of varying kinds that way I can see i fit gets eaten or not.
