700G tank - lots of advice needed

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Joe,
Tuesday is perfect LOL!!. I've seen that movie...and I can tell you it was made to sell good not to correctly portray the country :)

My question about heating is really more linked to maintenance costs. Here natural gas is cheaper than electricity but the actual system that would burn the gas and heat the water is expensive. So if a maximum of 800Wats would be enough I'll go with electric heater, but otherwise I may consider getting a gas based heater. What is you guess about this?

Thanks for the explanation on the sump. I think I'll use a sump after all. Do you have any idea how big should be the sump? If I use a high power pump does the size of the sump matter? (2000gph).

I just talked to an engineer and he said that the maximum allowed weight per square meter is about 700 kilograms so I might have to build a smaller tank. I live in a flat at the 3'rd floor and I think the building wasn't designed to hold big aquariums :)) Anyway as soon as I finish all the thinking and planning process I'll post some before pictures and hopefully in a month or so also the after pictures.

Now all I need is round trip plane fare for two (if I don't tell my kids about this), limo fare (MFK's don't do taxi's), spending money, gratuities, and enough to buy you a nice thank you gift. It might be a little later than tuesday...

6000lbs is some thing to think about 3 floors up :D .

Have you seen this link?, it calculates heater useage too...

Dude are you crazy? a 700g tank in an apartment?! I live in a house and I would would only put that on concrete with ground beneath it. I think you should either cut the size of your tank by quite a bit, or reinforce your floor a hell of a lot.

Just my 2 cents. If it goes this far, I'm using this: http://ise.standardplumbing.com/store.php?category=600000610000611100#itemdetail

scroll all the way to the bottom. It's 750 watts. Provides 60cups per hour of boiling water (don't want that). $255. If I go this way, i'm going to run it on a timer or on a limited basis.

Look into insta hot type systems for drinking water systems. Some of the RV stuff is a little over priced IMO. There's good gas fired and electric insta hot systems for coffe/tea etc.
