I have no idea how much a 700 would tip the scales but the place you get it from can tell you. And yeah no way would it go on a 2nd floor. I had 4 people move my glass cage 240 with cups and it wasnt bad. You get enough people on the tank your good. And build some dollies for the long flat runs through the house and the friends to lift it. Ohh and get a short stand lol

so what im getting from all this is im better of building it!!!
which i dout i can do or have time for
or find a local shop
DONT ORDER

Acrylic is lighter, stronger, and insulates better. It scratches, yes, but scratches can be buffed out. A good quality acrylic also looks better than standard glass (not sapphire glass, that stuff is nice too).

I mostly would not get glass over 200 gallons because of the weight... my 125 gallon glass tank was SO heavy, I could only imagine something bigger.

I would go glass. not a fan of acrylic for many reasons.

another vote here for Miracles Aquariums. they are local here in the toronto area and do amazing work. some of my tanks from them I had for 20 years without a reseal.

but they are not cheap. you get a quality made tank complete with black silicone but you pay for it.

but then again, you really shouldn't be penny pinching when dealing with a tank that size anyway.

you want excellent quality when dealing with 700g of water..

What he's saying is acrylic is "clearer" than glass at a given thickness, when the glass needs to be thicker for strength. i.e. larger tanks. That's why larger glass tanks use "sapphire" glass witch is very very pricy. Larger tanks (500+) seem to be cheaper when made out of acrylic, especially when shipping is involved. That's why I recommend building in place if your set on glass.

I would still go acrylic, but no matter which you you go I agree make sure it is a quality build! 700 gallons of water is no joke.
