I’m dead set in getting some bichirs, probably 2-3 senegals or PREFERABLY delhizis. What would my orher options be then? I’ve ruled out oscars, JDs, green terrors, and geophagus as of now. I’ thinking of maybe a 4-5” fh to grow out with the polys so they'll hopefully get used toe each other.

I think that a flower horn probably wouldn’t work as it could kill the bichirs and would be overstocking the tank as well. How about an African leaf fish, very cool fish and should get along fine with the bichirs.

in 72 gallon polypterus arent even possible in my opinion. Its way to small. A delhezi gets around 40cm. Thats 1/3 of a 72 gallon tank in the length and then they could just turn around in a tank that is their own size in width

I was thinking the same, and considering the fact that I’ve beard some get to 10”+ it seemed to much for a 72. Also as for the polys I’ve been told that a 72 should be good for at least 2-3 senegals so that’s what I really want to get. I’m alsonlooking for fish with the personality of a wet pet like a cichlid or flowerhorn but they all get too aggressive if kept with other tank mates. Would maybe a firemouth or some geophagus work? Also, would a crenicichla saxatalis be suitable for the tank then?

I disagree do, Senegals get big aswell. And way to big for a 72 gallon tank.

750 liter is recommended, so thats a no

For 72 gallon something like convict would work. They are very aggressive and funny to watch

I’m going to have to strongly disagree with you about no bichirs and disagree once more about delhezi bichirs getting 16 inches. In the wild maybe but in the tank they don’t get that big.
I myself am keeping 3 senegal bichirs in my 75 and I know it’s big enough.

I think the bichirs will be fine as well, though you may need to upgrade your filtration. As for what to keep with them, an African Leaf Fish or an African Butterfly fish would be fine. I also think the ringtail pike would be fine with them as well as they only get 6-8 inches.

I’m putting in a 20 gallon sump if that helps and if I can’t find any cichlids for the tank then I was thinking of an African predtaory tank. Also polys don’t grow to their normal sizes as they do in the wild so I think a few senegals should be fine with maybe one delhizi. I really want an African leaf fish or ctenopoma but I only saw them for sale once at my lfs.

I know that senegal bichirs don't get to their normal size. But I still think that 72 gallon is to small. They are quite active for bichirs in my opinion. But its just my opinion you can chose to ignore it.

I saw a lot of ctenopoma's for sale over the years but they are all around 2cm if I see them. I bought mine as chocolate gourami's by my lfs. They were giving to them by a woman who bought them as chocolate gouramis and they ate all her neon tetra's, after that she decided to return them to the lfs. :grinno::screwy:

Keep in mind that leaf fish mostly only eat life food. So If u want to keep them you gone need to buy life food every time.
