720 8x3x4 1 inch thick acrylic advice on moving it.

200 bucks max for a moving company to do it at an hourly rate forsure ! Get them, they have proper straps, dollys, pads and equipment. Plus they will bring a crap ton of dudes. lol.ALSO you can get it insured ! Lol so if they F up the company will replace it. (most companies offer load insurance)

That's interesting. The moving storage company where our tank was stored for a year said they would not be responsible for any damage when they moved our tank into our house...and they came close to damaging it several times.


We used straps and an engine hoist to lift and position the tank. Other MFKers have used engine hoists. Since we were in the middle of a major building project, we used a pallet jack several times to move the tank and stand around when we were drywalling.

Actually are you moving from already within your house, or are you buying it and bringing it in? First thought is buying one but can always be too sure. I say get as many friends as you can. It's not worth risking damaging a tank that awesome

get some glass suction cups with handles on them you pump them up and they stay on tank makes it a lot easier to carry get four sets so four guys can carry it without your hands slipping off tank you can probably rent them from a tool rental store Good luck and eat your spinach so you make to the Finnish

Actually I am getting scared me and my weak bros cant do it ourselves plus if anything went wrong and somebody got hurt that could be a nightmare. Moving company just told me 1,500 at the very least. I will make more calls. Anybody know a company that can pull this off? For all the cash I will be spending I can get a professionally made tank delivered without any risk of damage. Plus that 1 inch Acrylic kinda scares me. Anybody know if $ feet high and 1 inch is totally bulletproof. Can the tank bow and snap in my house hurting somebody? Sorry for rambling I am stressing out a little.
 
Just yesterday on my job we had a company named Pacific Machinery Moving out to move some machinery around. I asked if they had ever moved aquariums and they told me they had just moved one out of a custom house. They said it was BIG. Like in the 16'x4'x6' range. They are in socal and you can find them on the net. Hope this helps

A tank that size custom made and delivered would put you with the stand and equipment would through you into the 10kish mark depending on the company. But I say you shouldn't have issues with bowing and breaking, especially if you have enough hands on it. If you have enough friends to round up 7 guys that's a 100lbs each. And get a couple hydraulic carts maybe put you back 500 but you can still use it after and just buy your buddies pizza and a beer

These types of moves have to be planned. The only real lifting you should be doing is from the stand to four wheel dollies, and from four wheel dollies back to the stand. In between your rolling it. You also need to rent a truck with a liftgate from U-Haul or Ryder or something.

When the tank goes on the truck from the liftgate it stays on the dollies. The tank should be strapped to the wall of the truck (Covered by pads first), and 2x4s should be screwed to the floor of the truck in front and behind the dolly wheels so they can't roll.

You will still need a minimum of four guys to lift the tank from the stand to the dollies and the reverse.


That's not the kind of thing you can just throw in the back of a pick up truck. It's too big and too fragile.

When I wanted to move my tank, I called a couple of residential moving companies. They all said they would not be responsible for any damage. I then called a commercial moving service And they moved it from point a to point B for 200 bucks.

Again, four-wheel dollies and a truck with a lift gate is key to making this happen.
 
By the way, 1 inch acrylic should be fine for a tank that size. Although acrylic scratches very easy, it's much more durable than glass on breakage.
 
Just for an idea, I needed 6 fairly strong construction workers to help me move a 300 gallon glass tank of 715lbs. Two people could barely slide it on a blanket, much less lift it. Be glad you have acrylic though, we were so terrified of breaking it the entire time.
