720 Gallon cycling ideas and Armatus!

if you are adding seeded material to the tank and water from old tanks (which dont hold a lot of bb but some) then over night it will be cycled ime.

If you are adding water from your other tanks and seeded bio material, Wait til temp is the same as its current tank. And throw it in. I've done this plenty of times with very expensive fish. If it makes you feel better you can drip for 30 min.

I move my fish from tank to tank too often these days but every time I just add 50-70% used tank water from any of my tanks I know are safe (disease wise etc) then fresh water, move all my media over or a fair bit and add the fish so havent lost one and done this at least 5-8 times this year. the only thing I ever worry about is the temp if I cant source enough tank water.

if you want to be super safe I would move some media over and add a tester fish for a day or 2, red devils are good for this purpose xD

I do believe that 99%+ of the beneficial bacteria are in the media, substract and decor. And only the remaining 1%- in the water column
As regards the new water your concerns are Ph, temperature, chlorine and chloramine.

So, as long as the media is seeded and the water has the same ph and temp of the old tank, has circulated for at least 24hrs (to evaporate chlorine) and has no chloramine, I believe it is ok to put the fish in.

At least this is what I have been doing for years everytime I set a new tank (just did that last Sat): treat it like a massive water change

Hope this helps.

I just filled the tank up so things are looking fine. Should I add the Eheim substrate to the bottom of the sump or on top of the bioballs? My LFS guy said on top so the seeded Substrate will drip down to the bioballs.

The guy also mentioned not to add anything into the tower though. Seems like a waste to me the tower is over 50 gallons. I want to add a bag of 100 Fil Stars to it since its a dry tower the water will pass nice over the filstars making for more bio media?

What do the pros do with these big towers?
