72G show tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have got to get a background like that. The only problem is I have a fully stocked tank. Tearing it down to add that background would be a royal PITA. Is there anyway to mount it without siloconing it to the tank (and the required 24 hour drying time)?

Thanks.

I can’t think of a reliable way to do it without tearing down the tank, those things FLOAT. It wasn’t enough to weight down the mid sized piece (on the bottom) with a slat tile siliconed, I had to place 2 fist-size rocks in the front and back.
I chose to use several rock modules instead of a whole-piece background for 2 reasons - usable space, and uniqueness. However I had to think it thoroughly (water circulation, hides vs. ease-to-catch, equipment placement) before sawing and sticking… and it took a while.

I was afraid of that. Did you go all the way down to the bottom or did you just glue to the back wall?

I was looking at the install instructions and it showed a complete seal at the bottom and they suggested filling in front of the background and behind at the same time to minimize pressure on the background. To me that seems a little over kill. Don't you want the water behind and in front to be able to flow back and forth freely particularly if you have your filters and heaters back there?

...I have the rock modules, not a whole-piece background.
They are glued to the back, little to no water behind them, and filter intake and heater are in the right corner.
