75 gal AGA tank-are the sides tempered?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
According to their website, the bottom is tempered.

Pretty sure Perfecto 75G tanks are only tempered on the bottom as well.

So if the bottoms of most tanks are tempered, what kind of glass is normally used for the sides? I have a 55 I need to replace a side panel in.

Careful in making the aassumption about panels being tempered. It can vary based on tank size and manufacturer.

You can just use regular old plate glass to replace the side panel. Just match the thickness of the glass.

thanks for the info pharaoh...
will post the results soon!!! drilling the tank to install a bulkhead...going to try making holes on a small tank first!

ps what do you guys use (and its thickness) to make wall chambers in a sump-plexiglass right? I think home depot carries some...

I just used the 1/4" acrylic from Lowes. I cut it to fit and then I siliconed it into the tank. It was very easy, but I do recommend having an extra set of hands around to assist.

Here's mine:
