I have a 48x18x20 tank that currently has a juvenile oscar and firemouth as well as a sydontis cat and pleco. now i was wondering what else is a possibility to add to this tank? I definately only want SA/CA cichlids.

i wouldnt add anything there iwth the o and the pleco alon you have a small tank for em

why would you say that a tank this size is a small tank for an o? i have seen many people with breeding pairs of o's in a 90gal with the same footprint as mine as well as having many other fish.. i think my o might be a female as it is because he/she isnt real aggressive unless its feeding time. other than that it just swims around the tank minding its own business.. (i have bluegill and warmouth in with these fish right now but will be going back into their own tanks when i move)

Most people would consider a 75 the minimum size for a single Oscar. Depending on what type of Pleco you have, it could easily grow quite large, and even outgrow this tank in time. Plecos produce a lot of biomass, as do Oscars. I agree with paopanlilio that your tank is well-stocked, and in time, you may find that you are over-stocked. Definitely keep an eye on nitrates, and allow for redundancy in biological filtration (maybe an extra HOB or sponge filter).

its nice to hear the other fish are moving but i would just like to say that
not because other people do things doesnt mean its good or right
i just gave my opinion in adding fish to youre tank right now the fish you have is small and the tank looks big but when the o and the pleco grows youre tank would look small and you wouldnt enjoy and would want to upgrade to give em more space

its better to see a big fish swim in a big tank than a big fish barely moving in a tank that is just the bare minimum for him/her

The only thing I would add to this tank is time... When the fish are full grown you will find the tank is likely going to look and feel comfortably full...

I highly suspect Dominator's fish are still very young and when they begin to mature they will show him why we make the suggestions we make...

well the catfish is probly going to be moved to another tank. and as for other fish being added im not thinking of more monsters i was more thinking maybe a convict or some other small sa/ca cichlids. now this is my first o but afaik they get to the 12-13" range correct? i did have a breeding pair of dempseys in a 55gal before they were both about 5 years old and roughly 10" each and were just fine in the 55 which was same size as my 75 just not as wide. thats the reason i asked about why only 1 oscar and 1 pleco in this tank.. like i said before i just want some extra movement in the tank as i love my oscar but he/she is a very lazy fish so having some dithers/something for him/her to chase is nice.. but i know the o will probly act like my dempseys did and unless theres enough dithers that he/she cant constantly chase the same fish he/she will kill that fish.. and i dont want the o to kill my firemouth. that being said there are plenty of hiding spots in the tank for smaller dithers such as convicts or more firemouths...
