75 gallon CA stocking question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My texas claimed the whole 25 gallon tank 1 by 1. I decided to switch to smaller CA cichlids and have had better luck. I now have Firemouths, Honduran Red Points, and Rainbow Cichlids.

How about a female carpinitis for your male? It would be easy enough to do as m/f are distinguishable by the black patch in the dorsal for females. You could also look into other female fish if you felt like playing around with hybrid spawns - not exactly my thing, but would be a change of pace if youre getting bored.

I don't like more than one aggressive cichlid in a 4footer - never ends pretty. I've found lyonsi to be fairly slow & smaller growing than most other amphs & not as aggressive overall. You could get away with a pair in a 75 for a good while (w/o the carp of course) before they would eventually need more room. Great looking carp btw!

Well of course. A 75g is way too small for an aggressive cichlid like a Texas and other cichlids. I had an h. Cyano take over a 72g and h. Deppi take over a 150g. Herichthys cichlids are nasty.

Op the robertsoni maybe a larger cichlid but they are pretty wimpy. That caprintis will kill it. I would just keep the 75g to that caprintis and add dithers. That caprintis is beautiful!
