Have you ever considering the temperatures? Esox species do best in cool temperatures.Just for the sake of conversation, why couldnt you use something like the Synodontis multipunctatus, ?
I realize most hobbyist dont ever consider these to be natives, but in all honesty, they are native to Lake Tanganyika, in Africa. They are very interesting, and they wont eat your pickerel.
Unless you are set on North American Natives.

You'll better off with madtoms. Tropical cats do ok in 66 degrees but they won't be thriving.I don't honestly care too much if all of the fish are natives I would like to keep all of my "main" fish natives but I just want a "cool water" catfish. Temps for the tank will be 66 degrees year around.
well as I have said I am not looking for a tropical fish. I am looking for a cool water catfish. Many asain cats actually prefer cooler water. You'll better off with madtoms. Tropical cats do ok in 66 degrees but they won't be thriving.
