75 Gallon Filtration help needed.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Canister are indeed allot to maintain , BUT provide versatility (trays for what ever media you wont) over a HOB. HOB is great for additional filtration but not as versatile as a Canister or sump. The FX6 holds a ton more media than the HOB or sponge.. I have had nothing but good things to say about the FX series filters.
What would be a more affordable canister filter that runs well?

That was a very nice set up and thank you for sharing. I feel inspired!

I have 5x75 gallon tanks running and each one is filtered differently. 4 are a combination of sponges and a single hob and one just has 2 hobs. The sponges and a single hob or small canister is plenty of filtration on a 75. If you plan on an upgrade at some point, a FX6's flow can adjusted lower than the rated flow. Smaller canisters like eheim are pretty inexpensive and have great reviews.

The SunSun filters are a good economical option for canisters. I think you would definitely need a SunSun 304B, which is rated at about 550gph (it's much less once it's filled with media). I have a SunSun 303B on my 29 gallon and I wouldn't hesitate to use it on a 55. They are not the greatest for flow, but they hold a lot of media. They also have a built in UV for great water clarity. They can be had for about $80-$90 on Amazon. For that price, you can always add a second later if you decide you want to.

+1 on the sun sun

So far this is what I'm thinking I will be running in my set up. I'm going with, x2 FX6's with pre filter sponges on the intake, x2 large 125 gallon Hydro sponge filters with a submersible power heads (high flow rate). I will also be running a turbo twist UV Sterilizer on both outtakes as well as in-line heaters.

Please tell me what you think of this set up? I feel like this will be a great set up for predators with lots of waste.
