The API Filstar(formerly Rena) canister line is imho the best for small/medium tanks. I have many, a couple pushing 15yrs. Zero issues with any of them. Filtration aside, why has nobody mentioned the basic flaw with keeping 2 insanely aggressive fish that can exceed 16ins in a pittance of a tank? Where's the sanity??!!
I prefer aggressive fish and the average size of a common wolf fish is 20 inches in a aquarium. The sanity is all there There is no flaw the only issue is making sure the can co-habitat in the same tank luckily for me I have already found my fish and they are currently in the same tank with no issues.
Also just wanted to reiterate my filtration questions and concerns. The main issue I was worried about was making sure I can produce a great filtration system for the aquarium due to the high amounts of waste that will be produced by the wolf - especially since they will be a high protein diet.
I would invest the $800 into a larger drilled tank and run a sump system rather than overfiltering a 75 gallon. If space is an issue marineland sells a 4x2x2 120 gallon corner flow. No matter how much filtration you put on a 75g when those fish get larger water quality will be an issue. You could use that 75 gallon as a sump and end up with a much higher water volume, which in turn means better water quality with fewer water changes.
A sump tank is the best form of filtration by far holds the most water volume, easiest to switch out filter media and filter socks and versatile. Plus you can store heaters thermometers and any other equipment you don't want to see in your display tank. You can run media reactors in them as well. No canister can compete with a sump in volume and flow rate
