75 Gallon Filtration?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh, just figured out last night, if piranhas were meant to live in a river, then it is good if you get a filter for a higher tank capacity than your tank ( stimulates river flow).

Just tested my powerful filter ( do not get a filter for more than 3 times the size of your tank fro piranhas, that is what I recommend, you can try higher if you want).

an xp3 or 4
and could add a hob to if you want

if you dont want to drill and want a sump you could get one and just use a skimmer overflow box

Would a Eheim 2217 and a penguin biowheel 200 do the job? The biowheel would provide additional BB and mechanical filtration while the eheim would provide mechanical, biological and chemical filtration. In all this would provide 464 gph (Eheim is rated at 264 gph and the biowheel is rated at 200 gph).

That would work well for now, once your Ps get big you'll notice that getting a larger HOB to remove more particulate waste will keep your water at higher quality.

does anybody know where to find a good price on a eheim 2217classic ?

I have a Fluvial FX5 on my 75 gallon tank. This is all you need. The FX5 has the capacity for a 400 gallon tank. It filters 563 gallons per hour so it filters through a 75g tank 7.5 times in 1 hour. It provides excellent water flow and filtration and it is surprisingly very quiet. I also have a powerhead which is not really necessary but I have it anyways. when it comes to filters, dont cut corners especially with the piranhas messy eating habits.
