75 Gallon First "Monster Tank"

First off, wow. Thank you all for your quick input, this seems to be the most responsive fish forum I've joined. Glad I found y'all!

Option 3 Looks like a big hit. I've always wanted an EBJD, I figure their temperment will fit perfectly with the plan im going for. Concerning the EBJD/Super Red Sevs, it really comes down to which species I will be able to find 3-4" specimens of first. I've always loved the look of the gold/red sevs, and I'd feel more comfortable putting 2 of them in a 75 than I would 2 dempseys... for the purpose of a show tank, that could be a deciding factor, but hey, it's not like I don't have time to think about it.

As far as the pictus vs clown loach.... I think the loaches would be messing around in the sand bed quite a bit more, no? The clowns would definitely be more of an eye catcher, but I'll take practicality over aesthetics when it comes to bottom dwelling cats/loaches. Any other similar suggestions here guys?

Bichirs are no question, already have the one standard senegal, and I'd like either another albino or a delhezi, I feel like three would be pushing it. Availability isn't an issue here, I found an LFS about 40minutes away that carries albino sens for $20, delhezis for $50, and ornates for ~$75.

Should be picking up a stand/light this weekend, I've come up with an almost final stocking plan...

1x Delhezi Bichir
1x Senegal Bichir
1xEBJD (May get several of these smaller, sell them once they get to be a bio-load issue. Could get a decent amount for them grown out, and theres more choice of I plan to breed in the future)
3x Roseline Shark

I'm just going to leave any bottom dwellers out of the stocking plan for now, figure ill wait for something that really catches my eye on this one, large enough to exist in the above plan for this tank, but not outgrow it in a group of 3.

Ended up going with the EBJD... And got addicted quickly. I've picked up 2 more since, debating whether its worth it to try and get myself into a breeding project with them, looks like I have all males. Just need to find a BGJD

I like option 1. IMO a 75 is too small for clowns, and even the pictus are quite active swimming fist for a 4' long tank. I think the severums plys dithers will give you a good amount of mid-level activity, and the bichirs on the lower level will add the oddball factor (you could probably keep more like 4-5 of them IMO).

I'm not familiar with the HOB filters you talk about, but in my little experience with HOBs I've found it hard to get the lids to fit tightly around them, which could have disastrous consequences for escape-artist fish such as Polypterus. Perhaps look at getting a canister filter or some sort so you only need a small cut out in the lid for the two pipes.
