Hi there everyone. I currently have a 75 gallon occupied by a really boring black piranha. I am thinking about an Ohio native tank. I am up for about anything coldwater that can live it's life out in that tank. Any ideas? I prefer something that will be much more active than the piranha.

i personally would recommend some sort of sunfish, pretty bold fish, if you like the predator thing their good for sucking down a minnow or two as well.

I agree I would get a sunfish tons of different varieties available and most have tons of color .

If you decided you wanted a tropical Cichlid I would say get a male trimac

Longear and orangespotted sunfish would look nice.

Yeah I am totally leaning toward sunfish. The local fish market has huge live bluegill for sale and there is also a fish hatchery with different ones. I was thinking 2 or 3 small ones but I was reading that they may prefer to be solo. How many should I put in there? I am fine with a single big bluegill too, I just want them to be happy and active.

Have you thought about trying to catch your own? Depending on what species you want You could keep 1 to 10. Smaller Ohio species would be Northern longear and orangespotted sunfish. Medium species will be Green sunfish and Central longear sunfish. And your large species will be Bluegill,Redear sunfish, and pumpkinseed sunfish.
