I may be a little slow to continually update this thread, I some how manage to get pulled on side projects while trying to focus on this. Today was a good day for me, I feel like I actually accomplished something, after a failed attempt at building a stand.

I understand that this isnt in the projects forum, but I figured perhaps the salt audience might enjoy this a little bit more.

The tool I used, set the clutch to the lowest possible.

Practice makes perfect, especially since its my first time. If you look closely, in the last pic, you can see where I had two failed attempts on the right side. Glass cracked straight across.

And the tank of interest. This took forever, as I sat and baked in the hot sun, just before the storms passed. I think I may have spent 15-20 minutes working it until I broke through. Then I had to ream it to smooth out any shards.

I also decided to paint it today. Nice and easy, even with the humid air. I think I spent all of 10 sec. picking out the color. I put an old PC light fixture on to get a decent picture.

And another picture with the overflow temporarily installed. I think black would have blended better, but I have never been a huge fan of black back drops on aquariums, just my opinion though...

The tank is dirty and spotty from me having not cleaned it out when I broke it down from its last use, and the water I used as cooling while drilling.

really good job buds..

I really..REALLY want to put an overflow on my tank, with a drilled hole.. however I don't give myself that much hope.. lol Terrified I'll break the glass.. then be screwed... up the river without a paddle ...

Keep the pictures an updates coming.
Subbed.

Got the kit from glass-holes.com. I was a wreck while doing this, but figured the last thing I would want is to have the power go out when I am away and the siphon not start back up into my sump.

Its actually pretty easy. Just need a drill with a clutch setting, patience, practice on an old tank you dont care about, and easy on the pressure. Let the drill do the work.

Worked on the stand today, I still have the doors to finish, and some sanding.... and the usual.
This is what I started with:

i sold that exact stand to some one not to long ago off of craigslist.....
It was not I.

They are somewhat poorly built. I will be doing some beefing up of sorts I think.

Hmm....the past few days have left me grumbling and irritated. I prepped the stand, stained, and put 2 poly coats on it. The wood filler was a huge disappointment. I still have the doors left to do, but I may set this up and run it without the doors for a while. My parents live an hour away and driving over there just to use the router table doesnt is something I dont want to do. That, and I have been having to go in on the weekends lately to work.

Here is the sump I built. It has taken me a while because waiting for silicone to set is liking watching paint dry. I was originally going to run the return pump in line, but I read up a lot of comments about how the mags were extra noisy when like that, so i took out the last pane of glass and set it up as a submerged. The pump in the top of the picture is for the algae turf scrubber. the section below the pump is my fuge.

Its currently going through a test run in the garage and everything seems fine so far. Will try and get some pics later tonight.
