75 Gallon setup?? Acarichthys heckelii

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My biggest problem is that the A. Heckelli can get so big i don't want to buy fish and then have to sell them because their isn't enough room or aggressive problems. MY pair actually are trying to breed they been digging up the sand in a cave i've provided. I don't see myself getting a bigger tank soon and the aggression among the altifrons i believe is becoming a distraction. Are Altifrons know to be so aggressive towards each other or is it because they are all males? if i do add some of the smaller geos will it still work in the long run with a breeding pair of A. Heckelli or will they get chase til they die? the pair is chasing anybody that is getting close to their cave ( i think we my have eggs inside). would the safe thing be just to let them have the whole tank to them selves with some sort of big tetra?

This is the my female.

Heckelii are known to be vertical cave brooders (in nature they actually dig out 12"+ holes in the mud). You might want to place you cave so it's vertical instead of laying down, though they may still be a bit young yet.

i just picked up 4 of the Heckelii and i am loving them so far !!!!!!

in the 220 i have 4 x Heckelii
5 x Uaru
3 x angels
2 x festivum
1 x sev
and 5 bleeding hart tetra

in a 75 i think i would either leave the pair with some nice large tetra or add a festivum or 2
