Im not having much luck lately. Ive been having trouble with my filters being strong enough to suck fish up against it. It killed my fh and I was honestly pissed. So im looking for a sponge or something to cover it but not mess it up

just use pantyhose lol

just use pantyhose lol. or get a pre filter
I have just the typical on the back filters. I want to get canisters but dont have the money for them. My goal this summer is to get them. Or I can try the prefilter and see how it works.

just use panythose and rubber bands.

Pantyhose works but it clogs too quickly. Plastic mesh screen with ribber bands has worked well for all my filters (HOB's and canisters) for several years. Rubber bands last about a month, the mesh itself several months and then needs to be replaced. All prefilters and filter material are cleaned weekly, the first in tap water, the second in tank water. Good luck!
