I had an idea for another "dither fish" but not really the typical one. What about 12 or so Platy's. My kids would enjoy the splash of color. Now I know they reproduce like rabbits but would the cichlids do a good enough job of eating all the children or would I need to an all male group?

Maybe but careful were u get them they always look sickly in lfs also are they fast?

Pretty fast. And they are like a buck if one gets eaten so no big deal
