75 gallon with Dempsey and Acara

i thought only females had the blue patterns underneath the face? thought it mentioned in most reviews that males didnt color beneath the face. the smaller acara seems a little stockier. ive had the two dempseys since they were about an inch and ive never had any major aggression from them only a few missing red tailed tetras and i blame that on the large one. they dont go anywhere near the tigerbarbs tho.

both JD's are male, they have spots on there gill plate but females have a blue"beard" on there gills.

I agree for the most part but the gill plate markings on the 2nd one makes it look like a "tweener" to me. Need a better pic of that one IMO. #2 sure has great color though as stated already by PoopSmart.

I look for blue marking on the bottom 1/2 of the gill plate when I sex JD's. Lots of spots there or solid color there seems to be female 99% of the time.

NICE fish:headbang2

Cant seem to get many decent photos today. the larger dempsey seems to be in high command even since i first got the two of them when they were really small. every now and then theres a little chasing between them but never any nipped fins or lip locking or scars.

they both look male one might be female but i can't really tell not sure about the acara

in the photo no they are all just chillin near the top while i was taking pictures. Sometimes the small dempsey gives a bit of chase but then the big dempsey chases the smaller dempsey. think its more of just to claim the tank theirs as theyve been in it for a while. dont think they mean any harm. if they do ill move them or put in a divider.

Well I have to say the fish look nice. ( sorry if I am no help )

thank you very much ... i cant wait til they get larger. Til then i dont think they really hold up to any of the nice fish many of you people have.
