Hi MFK! I recently caught the Cichlid bugg after seeing my uncle and grandfathers tanks. There is no turning back now i have got a 10g QT tank 15g grow out tank with some barbs and ghost shrimp and a 75g Tank. In the 75g i have 1x flowerhorn, 1x red oscar, 2x firemouth, 2x convict, 1x salvini, 1x pictus catfish, 6x tiger barbs, 5x albino cory cats. I'm holding the Red O for a friend and will be giving him back within a few months and most likely will be getting rid of the cory cats. I may be giving away the smaller FM as well but dont know yet. Will my tank be ok with 1x FH, 1 Salvini, 2x Convict, 1x pictus, 6x tiger barbs, 1-2x FM's ? I am looking into purchasing extra filtration as i only have 1 marineland emperor HOB at the moment but will most likely buy another next month. I am also looking into getting a 125g+ tank by the end of the year i just need to find a place to put it =P

How big are the fish as of now that are staying in the tank?
I'd also recommend a canister filter...

The salvini is the boss of the tank and the biggest at 4 inch and the rest are 2-3 inch. What is the benefit of a canister over HOB? sry still learning about these things but thanks for the quick response!

flowerhorns should really be kept alone or with as mate... I would get rid of the flowerhorn and choose one large cichlid that gets around 12" max and leave the convicts and salvini

really? why kept alone or with a mate only? this is the first ive heard of this. it sounds interesting though. What about the FM's can 1 or both stay?

flowerhorns are just mean as hell once they hit the 5" range they should be kept alone... they will kill of other fish... also the flowerhorn will grow faster than all the other fish... I would ditch the convicts or firemouths and add one large cichlid like a green terror or jack dempsey.. Or you could do something like 1 male gt, 1 male convict, 1 male firemouth and a school of dithers...

I wouldnt get ANY 12" fish for a 75 if you already have 13 other fish in the tank. The only way a 12" fish works in a 75g is alone (or a pair as an extreme BARE minimum).

OP, if the cons are a pair, they will take over that tank once the spawn. Get 2 of the same sex if you want to have 2 cons...same goes for FMs, try and stay away from pairs in a 75 if you want other tank mates.

FH's are hybrids and usually become intolerable of tankmates, no matter the kind. If you arent keen on having 1 fish in the tank, Id go ahead and get rid of it.

he said he's getting rid of the cory cats, and the oscar.. I suggested he also gets rid of the flowerhorn and convicts or firemouths.... a gt or jd will more likely get to 10" max maybe 12" but that will take a really long time... I don't see anything wrong with keeping a gt or jd with a convict or firemouth and the tigerbarbs as dithers....
