75 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lol, everyone on here wants more fish than they can house except arapaimag!-)
Im still guilty of it, I nearly always have fish that I have no where for, impulse buys ect. But we still have to give good sound advice on threads like these as what we write will be on here as long as mfk is still around for the whole world to see when they are doing research...

In total agreement. Thats why i said the best fit would really be the o by himself. I just didnt want to sound like a douche/stocking police lol

Try to setup a decent size sump and fill it with plants, pothos and water species, could use an overflow box so you dont need to mess about drilling the tank. That will help control your nitrates and increase tank volume.

Lol, in all fairness an o will fill a 75 pretty well once fully grown. Its the growing time that causes people to believe their tank needs more fish.

Although a 75gal might be good for 1 semi-large fish, to me it always look like you're trying to house a great dane in a bathroom.
If keeping more than 1, my philosophy would be nothing that exceeds 7.5 inches at adulthood.
I have kept a pair of grammodes in a 75 for a few years, but once the male hit around 7", the female was a goner.

At the moment I have an adult pair of 5"-7" Crytoheros mynae and their fry in the same 75gal tank with a few swordtails, and to me they fill the space nicely, look very comfortable.

Thanks for everything everyone! I think my 75 gals would only suit for malawi cichlids I'm thinking all male peacocks/haps.

Very wise decision in not going ahead and cramming an Oscar into a 75

Thanks, I don't want my fish to suffer and feel unhappy. Maybe next time I'll get a 150-200 gal tank so I can house both Oscar fish and polypterus. For now I'll enjoy the beauty of malawi cichlids :)
